One Camera Bag for All Your Photography Adventures
- 3 Key Questions to Ask Before Buying a Camera Bag
- This is the Sling Camera Bag You’ve Been Waiting For
As the world slowly begins to reopen, more and more photographers are looking forward to their next adventure. I haven’t bought any plane tickets yet, but I’m definitely planning on doing an international trip as quickly as possible. I’ve missed travel photography.
If this is exactly what you’ve been waiting for, then it is definitely a good time to start looking at all of the gear you’re going to need for your next trip. In order to make that a little bit easier, I’m bringing you this camera bag buyer’s guide. I’ll give you all of the camera bag advice you could ever need, and I’ll also recommend one specific camera bag, the HEX Technical Backpack, which meets all of my camera bag requirements.
If you’ve never owned a camera backpack before, then you really don’t know what you’re missing out on because there are so many benefits of camera backpacks.
The HEX Technical Backpack Is Incredibly Durable
The first benefit of a camera backpack is that they are incredibly durable, so long as you purchase the right one. It’s the number one reason why I’m recommending the HEX Technical Backpack.
This backpack is made of Cordura, which essentially means that this camera bag is impossible to tear. I’ve had mine for years and there’s not so much as a scratch in its fabric.
Of course, in order for a camera bag to be considered durable, it also needs to be weather-proofed, especially for international travelers who might end up in the middle of a storm at any point.
The HEX Technical Backpack fits this bill too because its Cordura is also water resistant and antimicrobial. This means you can expect your backpack to have no issues in a storm, since it repels mold and fungus. Plus, if you really get caught in the middle of a storm, the HEX Technical Backpack comes with a hideaway rain fly, so you’re never going to be caught without one.
Even the inside of the backpack is durable. The pockets are lined with plush faux fur of the highest quality. I’ve had issues with faux fur falling out of my camera bag in the past, but the HEX Technical Backpack is made with far higher quality products.
It’s Also Large Enough to Fit Everything You Might Need
Another huge benefit of buying a camera backpack over a camera bag is that you can fit far more camera gear into it.
For instance, the HEX Technical Backpack is large enough to fit your 16” laptop, a HEX power bank for continuous charging, your phone and passport for travel, pens and notebooks, extra batteries and SD cards, as well as a water bottle, clothing, and obviously, your camera and lenses.
The HEX Technical Backpack does all of this without adding too much weight, either. The backpack has a 17.5L volume, measures 19.5” x 11.5” x 4.75”, and only weighs 2.0 lbs. This is good news for someone who is planning on doing a ton of walking on their trip, but it’s also good news for photographers who would rather dedicate their luggage weight to their camera gear.
Speaking of, if you’re planning on using this camera bag for longer international trips, it even comes with a luggage handle pass through. This allows you to sling your camera bag over your larger luggage so that you don’t have to drag both through the airport individually.

But, It Doesn’t Forget About Comfort…
All of these features are great in a camera bag, but if it’s so uncomfortable that you can’t wear it for more than a few hours, it’s pretty much worthless.
Thankfully, the HEX Technical Backpack is far more comfortable than most camera bags I’ve owned. The back panel is made out of molded EVA padding, which allows the backpack to fit each individual perfectly, and the straps are thick enough to evenly distribute all of the weight of your camera gear over your whole torso.
The bag also comes with a chest strap, which will keep the shoulder straps in one place for even the longest days of shooting.
Or Aesthetics…
Finally, the HEX Technical Backpack looks nice without being too flashy. Some camera bags have a definite issue in that they try to look expensive. For those of us who travel internationally frequently, we know that this is the perfect way to attract the attention of thieves.
This backpack features a glacier camouflage color and is just inconspicuous enough to make the perfect international companion.
