Brazil photography is a visual treasure of beautiful scenery, beautiful people, and the greatest biological diversity in the world. If you should choose to delight yourself with a photographic tour of the fifth largest country of the world give yourself plenty of time in your agenda to thoroughly experience the country. If you don’t arrive home and wonder how many months it will take you to sort through all of the photos from your Brazil photography trip then you haven’t planned your itinerary as well as you could.
Brazil was once a Portuguese Colony and so therefore it is rich in Portuguese culture. The average temperature is 77ºF, coffee is extraordinary, the women are beautiful and the animals and flora are national treasures. Natural formations and manmade structures will give way to imaginative shots in which you will be willing to climb distances to patiently wait for sunsets and animals to move into frame. Brazil photography is more than just the photos you capture; it will be the journey that led you to each photograph that will have you choosing one photo over another as your favorite.
Brazil photography affords you the opportunity to use all your photographic equipment, your photographic skills, and learn new ones along the way. Experimentation will almost always be rewarding due to the superior subjects available. Make sure you bring a wide lens, panoramic capabilities will be a bonus, for shots as you travel down the Amazon capturing the width and vastness of the River and the Rainforest and dense vegetation on each side. Zoom lenses will be useful for portraits, capturing macaw and toco toucan birds in the wild. Close-ups can be had of subjects that you wouldn’t be able to get any closer to like waterfalls, city shots from mountain heights and animals such as monkeys, pumas, and jaguars.
Bring plenty of film, memory cards, and battery backups. While you wouldn’t have difficulty with purchases you won’t want to waste time shopping for these items. With so much to do and see your time is best spent elsewhere.
Brazil contains the Amazon Rainforest with all of its wonders, semiarid deserts, coniferous forests in the South, and tropical pristine beaches and waters that are clear and reflective with the tropical sun. An ever changing color palette as the sun changes position throughout the day. Art shops, handmade musical instruments, jewelry, and colorful fabrics at street markets in Salvador are treasure shots for the artistic photographer.
Brazil photography collections should include the statue of “Christ the Redeemer” with outstretched hands overlooking the city of Rio de Janeiro. Named one of the 7 New Wonders of the World, it is a staple shot to any portfolio of Brazil. Photographing it from different locations in the city will make for a fun few hours of looking for the perfect shot and along the way opportunities to capture everyday life in the city. Pictures taken from the statue’s location will be breathtaking, especially in early evening or early morning as the city comes alive or awakens.
The Pedra Furada, or “Pierced Rock”, in Jericoacoara is a natural formation that will allow you to capture the sunset through the arch of the rock. You will not be the only photographer awaiting the sunset. Iquaza Falls are spectacular, and shots of beaches and palm trunks in Ipanema are classic photographic opportunities in Brazil photography.
Brazil photography is a camera lovers Holy Grail opportunity. There are few places in the world where a carnival full of beautifully costumed women can be on the itinerary quickly followed by architectural shots of homes the color of children’s bubblegum cigars in bright blues, pinks, yellows, and greens. The wildlife, flora, and landscapes are threatened by future construction of man but now it remains a gift to your memory and heart and the photographic opportunity of a lifetime.
