We all know that Photoshop can be a very powerful tool in the right hands. It can alter a photo completely and turn the wildest of imagination into spectacular images.
But besides this awesome creative part, Photoshop is a tool and a very important one if I might add. It is particularly useful for portrait, beauty and fashion photographers because it enables them to remove small defects or skin imperfections without losing image quality or a natural look.
For many beginners who don't have a lot of experience with photography or Photoshop, retouching can be scary. Even basic techniques, like using layers, can be frightening so many stick to basic editing software or simply use shots straight out of the camera.
In an awesome tutorial, Phlearn's Aaron Nace shows a pro skin retouching technique that can be used by anyone with basic Photoshop skills with a bit of practice. It's called Frequency separating retouching and it's hardly the kind of skill you figure out by yourself.
A lot of amateurs completely destroy their photographs when they retouch them because they ruin all the skin texture which ultimately adds to the visual appeal of a portrait or a beauty shot.
This technique will show you how to remove imperfections while keeping all the texture.
