A small camera setup is a fine outfit for general photography. We can adapt one in many ways to handle whatever type of photography we find ourselves doing. Let’s assume that our small camera setup is a camera body, 2 or 3 lenses, and a flash unit. The right camera accessories are how we adapt to our different needs.
Some photographers consider a flash unit an accessory, but I label it part of a standard setup. I also think certain other accessories are virtually essential gear items, such as lens filters and some sort of camera support.
So, the point is, when we go out with our small camera setup to capture photos, we often carry more than a camera and a couple of lenses. We have some regular camera accessories, too.
This means we need a method of carrying all this properly. So, other types of accessories are required: camera bags, camera straps, and sleeves or pouches for memory cards or iPads and tablets, to name a few. I'll detail the leather camera accessories, such as the wonderful Holdfast camera accessories, today.

Leather Camera Accessories
Since prehistoric times, Man has used leather for utilitarian and decorative purposes. Leather is a great material. It's easy to work with to fashion different things out of it, strong yet comfortable, and it remains pliable and usable in various weather conditions. Leather can also be tooled and treated, bringing out its natural beauty.
Early on, photographers adapted leather goods for their camera needs. Find an old screw-mount Leica 35mm rangefinder camera from the 1930s and 40s, and it probably still has the original thin leather camera strap attached—a testament to how good a material leather is for camera accessories.
Most bags and cases from pre-1900 on have been made from leather and heavy canvas - sometimes both together. Manufactured materials have been used for decades to make bags and straps, too, but I really like my leather camera accessories for all those reasons listed earlier.
Holdfast camera accessories satisfy my needs and wants for leather camera accessories. Holdfast Gear makes high-quality camera accessories such as straps, bags, belts, sleeves, and wallets. They also make nice wearable apparel and even dog leashes!

Straps are Essential Camera Accessories
The first thing I do when getting a new camera (or new-to-me used camera) is to get rid of that horrible strap packed with the camera. They’re uncomfortable and get in the way of my shooting style. But straps are virtually essential camera accessories.
So, instead of a strap that hangs on my neck and attaches to the upper sides of the camera, I’ve found extra comfort in a shoulder sling or harness strap. This is a more comfortable and functional arrangement and is a secure way to attach the camera to the tripod thread on the bottom of the camera.
Have a look at the MoneyMaker Solo camera strap. It’s a cross-body harness or sling-style strap and a single-camera version of the original MoneyMaker two-camera harness strap that I use for most of my professional photo sessions.
In the video above from the Holdfast Gear YouTube channel, watch this short video highlighting what makes the MoneyMaker Solo so special.
Pouches as Bag Alternatives
Sometimes, you only need a few camera accessories, like an extra battery or other small camera gear. Instead of taking along your camera bag, try out the Western Utility Pouch.
It comes in two versions and three sizes. You can either choose soft leather or a harder Cordovan leather. Sizes range from small (2 ⅝ x 3”), medium (3 x 4 ¼”), and large (3 ¼ x 5 ½”) for your specific needs. The pouches fit on the MoneyMaker straps or a belt.
A Different Type of Bag
HoldFast’s Indestructible Hip Bag is great for carrying a tablet and other camera accessories. This bag is crafted out of supple yet strong American Bison leather with pockets made of contrasting smooth cowhide.
It gets the Indestructible label due to being fashioned without stitching. Instead, it uses hand-hammered rivets to hold it together. Dimensions are 5 ⅞ x 8 ½”, and it has both an exterior and a hidden interior card pocket. Perfect for that iPad or other tablet you’re bringing with you.
Wallets and Sleeves
For carrying those other essential camera accessories and SD memory cards, try out the SD Memory Card Wallet. It holds six cards and can be added to your MoneyMaker Solo strap or even fit into a pocket of your clothes. Sizing is just 2 ¾ x 5 ½”, and it is ultra slim.
