Which has greater market share of users? Nikon or Canon?

I did a few searches here and didn't see a question like this. Might be a tough one to answer exactly. So purely speculation if need be, who do you think has the greater market share of users? Nikon or Canon?

It's honestly not a contest. It's for sure Canon.

Even the largest photography forum online is a Canon one.

Look at sports events, white lenses everywhere. CANON.

Canon is marketing their products more aggressively at the moment, but Nikon relies on word of mouth more I think. I know a Canon pro who told me last night that right now Nikon has the better product line.

Figure I have seen figures for DSLRs that show Nikon has taken a slight lead over Canon but are both in the lower 30% ranges. Another site says "Last year, Canon sold 4.4 million DSLRs to Nikon’s 3.4 million."
Some sites use US figures, some Japanese, and some US/UK/Japanese combined. Another says Canon leads in overall digital.
Another quote "according to veteran photographer Ken Rockwell. "It’s like golf. Winning’s all about the golfer, not the club.” "

I wasn't suggesting this to be a contest, I know more people who shoot with a Nikon, I see Nikon commercials all over TV, so it was the best vote I could come up with. Your mostly right, mine was just based off observation in my little bubble of friends.

Nikon is more aggressive. How many ashton kutcher commercials have you seen lately? I can't remember the last time I saw a canon commercial.

Personally I have never operated a Canon DSLR, how much different are they to operate?

Canon is a larger company than Nikon as well.

More menu driven, a lot simpler on functions on the actual camera. They don't do as much in camera processing as well.
