How to Name your photos?

2 years 1 month ago #734173 by Chris Briggs
Morning PT peeps.  I've noticed on Facebook, many photographers naming their photos.  Most seem to have great names that connect to the photos and tell a story.  Strange thing (being sarcastic), when I try come up with a name, nothing comes to mind or my name is very generic.  How in the world are you all finding/thinking up these names?

My pictures have two names: a permanent one (based on its actual
number for the archive), and a second that may change depending
on the usage… that makes it easier to come up with solutions.

Light is free… capturing it is not!

Whatever works for you, Chris .
Many people just use the word "untitled" and leave it at that .

I generally don't, but the rare times that I do, it's whatever comes to mind about the circumstances getting the shot, something about the location, or special meaning about the shot heavily influence what I call it.

The ONLY time I name my photos is when it's for some sort of assignment or contest, and it's a struggle for me as well.

I really don't.  The only photos I've named are a couple that a few years ago I entered into a photo competition.

Canon 5D Mark II | Canon 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM | Canon 35L | Sigma 85 1.4 | Helios 44M-6 58mm(M42) | Zeiss 50mm 1.4 (C/Y) | Canon 135L | (2) 430EX II

Ha!  i have a completely different approach, I recruit my wife.  She is neutral and also an English literature professor, so I can get some nice prospective from her with regards to name ideas.

Think about what tells a story about the shot, or a continuation of what you visually see.  That's a good starting place for name creation.
