The Coffee Shop: A place to relax and hang out.

Buenas Tardes Talkers.  No rain today, not even a hint of rain. Blue skies, nothing but blue skies.  A bit on the cool side, 63F, but the sun is out.  Mary Lou, Maggie and Gary are in the patio, sipping on vino, Maggie is on the patio couch with her head in the sun and Mary Lou is working 9n some paperwork while a backyard bird is is making a big fuss splashing in the birdbath.

Entertainment Update:  This week Mary Lou and Gary attended a musical, Come From Away, at the Segerstrom and a movie, They Shall Not Grow Old. Come From Away takes place during 9-11 and the 39 planes stranded in Newfoundland after US airspace was sealed off shortly after the attacks. Simply wonderful, the musical takes you across a full spectrum of emotions as the population of Gander, Newfoundland nearly doubles from 9,000 to 16,000 by the stranded planes. Gary had read a bit about these planes and the situation... but the play brings it all into a sharp focus and the warmth of our neighbors to the north.  God Bless all you Newfoundlands and your hospitality to those standee for nearly a week from all corners of the world.

They Shall Not Grow Old is a documentary on WWI.  The director sifted through 100 hours of WWI film and 600 hours of oral history to produce this remarkable film.  The film does not document any particular action or group, but is rather a generalization of what took place for the average soldier in WWI.  This film will not appeal to everybody, but Gary feels that it is a must see for all.  It is not a propaganda movie and the viewer will not cheer for anyone side ... it is a realistic view of a WWI’s soldier’s life, backed by real film and real voices of WWI soldiers. Should yo do choose to see this movie, stick around for the post movie chat by the director.  He explains much of the hurdles his team had to overcome to create the end product.  Well worth seeing.

Buenas Tardes Talkers. The day started out perfectly crisp, sunny and blue skies. Mary Lou and Gary worked in the yard, Mary Lou in the front and Gary in the back. Then suddenly the skies darkened and it began raining ... like on a snap of a finger ... it started pouring. Mary Lou picked a bucket of oranges and proceeded to squeeze out a couple carafes of juice. Presently Gary is warming up from the great outdoors with a cup of Mexican Hot Chocolate. Delish.

Juggle ...

Limes are used in all kinds of cocktails and even beer.  One can make limeade, similar to lemonade.  Limes keep scurvy in check, (hence the term Limey ;) ), and limes are used as a seasoning in all kinds of Mexican/Latin American dishes ... from soups to tacos to fish, there will be a small plate of cut up limes served with the meal.

Gary loves carbonated water (a la Perrier), he flavors his homemade 'Perrier' with limes ... Sooooo refreshing.  Gary tosses in a bit of citrus in a lot of his cooking. Adds a hint of tang. Funningly, Mary Lou added a lime to her pancake mix the other day ... only one lime and you couldn't taste it.

Next time you have some chicken soup or a taco, squeeze a lime.  :cheer:

Hey Gary, how about a cup of that freshly brewed coffee of yours?

Do you belong to any coffee clubs?

Buenos Dias Talkers. Nope, Gary doesn’t belong to any coffee clubs. But you are in a bit of luck, Gary toasted some beans yesterday.

How about a cup brewed in the siphon ...

The siphon is great, you put the coffee in the top chamber and water in the bottom.  The water heats up and the evaporation/gas pushes the water up into the top chamber to brew.  Once the coffee has brewed sufficiently, turn off the heat, the bottom chamber cools and the brewed coffee drops down to the bottom chamber, (a filter keeps the grounds in the top chamber).  Viola! A delicious cup of coffee and a few minutes of entertainment.

French Press makes a great cup of coffee.  I have a friend in Taiwan who is really into coffee.  He has all these exotic machine to brew coffee, he still appreciates a French Press as one of the best ways to make coffee. Gary usually uses a French Press for his coffee.  The siphon is fun, equals the French Press in taste, but makes only a couple of cups.  Gary has different sizes of French Press, only one siphon size.

It's been cold put here as well.  Yesterday and today, it's been 39F at daybreak.  It is projected to hit 57F, but that's still cold.  What was on the lunch menu?

Buenas Tardes 'Talkers.  Cold and rainy today.  All this rain, after eight plus years of drought ... sorta makes you appreciate the drought.
