GoPro Hero 10 Specs: Durable Build Quality & Design
The first thing you will notice when you get your hands on a GoPro Hero 10 Black is how sturdy and well-made it is. Its pocket-sized, rugged body is 100% weatherproof, submersible up to depths of 10 meters (33 feet), and features a hydrophobic lens cover that sheds water and is scratch resistant. It’s almost impossible to break or damage one of these bad boys!
Another design feature you will love is the dual front and back screens. The rear screen is touch sensitive and makes navigating the intuitive menu system a piece of cake. Alternatively, the front LCD offers live previews and is a game changer for vloggers and YouTubers who often shoot selfie footage.
Two more highlight-worthy design features of this camera include folding fingers and a microphone drain. The folding fingers make it easy to pair with GoPro accessories without needing a case. In contrast, the microphone drain improves audio quality by draining water after the camera gets wet.
Here’s an in-depth look at the GoPro Hero 10 specs and key features:
GoPro Hero 10 Specs: Unreal Video Capabilities
While GoPros can capture great still photos, everyone knows their signature feature is their unreal video capabilities. And thanks to the powerful GP2 image processor that debuted in the GoPro Hero 10 Black, this camera is faster, has better resolution, and has higher video frame rates than any of its predecessors.
It captures unbelievably sharp 5.3K video at speeds as high as 60 frames per second. 5.3K has 91% more pixels than 4K video and nearly seven times the amount of pixels found in 1080p Full HD video. Regarding resolution and video quality, the Hero 10 Black blows most DSLR and mirrorless cameras out of the water!
On top of that, the GoPro Hero 10 shoots stunning slow-motion video. You can choose between 4K/120p slow-motion or 2.7K/240p super-slow-motion. Super-slow-motion footage is played back eight times slower than real-time and is great for fast-moving action and adventure sports. Moreover, recording slow-motion movies directly in the camera will save you tons of time during post-production.

GoPro Hero 10 Specs: Industry-Leading Image Stabilization
Next, there’s the world-class in-body image stabilization technology of the GoPro Hero 10 Black. It boasts GoPros patented HyperSmooth 4.0 image stabilization that absolutely crushes its competitors. Never before has handheld video footage had so little camera shake and looked so smooth.
For even better results, you can “Boost” the stabilization. The “Boost” feature works at all frame rates and makes it look almost like you are shooting with a gimbal. While it does crop the frame ever so slightly, it is worth it when shooting extremely bumpy footage. The stabilization also improves the camera's low-light photo and video performance, leading to higher-quality content shot indoors, at night, and at sunrise/sunset.
Best of all, HyperSmooth 4.0 has unprecedented horizon leveling capabilities. What is horizon leveling, you ask? It’s a technology that automatically adjusts and straightens your compositions even when the camera is tilted. The GoPro Hero 10 adjusts the frame by up to 45 degrees in either direction, increasing the quality of your work while simultaneously improving your productivity and workflow speeds.
GoPro Hero 10 Specs: 23MP Still Photos
The GoPro Hero 10 Black boasts an impressive 23.6-megapixel 1/2.3-inch CMOS Sensor. The high-resolution sensor, paired with the advanced image processor, leads to better-than-ever imaging capabilities. It’s the first action camera to ever hold its own against DSLR and mirrorless cameras, and gone are the days when GoPros were only reliable video cameras.
Photos shot with the Hero 10 Black have bold and vibrant colors, minimal noise (even when shot at night), and realistic natural tones. Additionally, it offers five distinct fields of view (FOV) for photography and video. They are SuperView, Wide, Medium, Linear, and Narrow from widest to narrowest. I particularly love the unique fisheye effect created by the wider FOVs.
Another outstanding GoPro photography feature of this camera is the 25 frames per second burst shooting. When you throw in the LiveBurst setting that records 45 frames before and after you press the shutter button, the Hero 10 Black is one of the best cameras for sports photography.
GoPro Hero 10 Specs: Killer Creative Modes
Lastly, I have to mention all the amazing creative photo and video modes of the GoPro Hero 10 Black. While they might not be features you use every day, they are a lot of fun to play around with and lead to spectacular results. Some of my favorite shots of all time were captured using the modes detailed below.
Two of the most popular are TimeWarp 3.0 and Night Lapse modes. They create beautiful time-lapse movies ideal for cityscapes, sunrises, and sunsets. Furthermore, thanks to a setting called “Scheduled Capture,” you can pre-program your Hero 10 to record time-lapses on its own. This means you can get the perfect sunrise video from the comfort of your sleeping bag.
Other new one-of-a-kind GoPro modes are Hindsight, Duration Capture, and stabilized live streaming. Hindsight retroactively records up to 30 seconds of video before you start to record, and Duration Capture lets you preselect how long you want to film. Finally, the Hero 10 can live stream 1080p footage directly to YouTube or other platforms using HyperSmooth 4.0.
Final Thoughts on the GoPro Hero 10 Specs
As you can see, despite the release of the GoPro Hero 11 Black, the GoPro Hero 10 Black remains a powerful camera in its own right. It shares many of the same video and imaging capabilities as its successor and is roughly $100 less, making it a wonderful option for beginners and people on a budget.
In addition, it’s one of the best video cameras on the market for action sports, travel, vlogging, and YouTube. If you like the idea of purchasing an action camera but aren’t 100% sold on the GoPro Hero 10, here are some more of the best action cameras in stock now at MPB:
