So, is photography your most expensive hobby?

Photography is by far my most expensive hobby. I have been trying to start my own small business for years. I focused on macro and landscape for yrs, when Dslr were not available, even at my University. Now I am getting into newborns and babies. Weddings are great, but I am so excited to do some shoots with those adorable little angels and maternity photos. Photography is my passion, not just a hobby.

My father ended up after flipping boats with a 48 Ft. Fountain that we took on Poker Runs and so many other wonderful adventures. I agree that's an expensive hobby, but I can't afford that one just yet. :P I sure do miss him.

For me it is the most expensive passion and hobby. I love it and know I will succeed one day. It's just going to take some time. :woohoo:

My hobbies seem to be in a cycle. I put my heart and soul into something, then my interest switches to something else. Photography never goes away, but it's not a priority at the moment. I have a costly outdoor project to do in the spring so, until the snow flies, my hobby is gardening and landscaping. Financially speaking, the closest competition to photography in terms of cost would be electronics. I don't mean entertainment or computer, I mean designing and building circuit boards from scratch. Recently though, the two have combined as I'm planning on making my own ring flash. Just a few more parts needed...

Sure, practice makes perfect but, unless you learn from your mistakes, you are only perfecting your ability to fail.

I think once you have built up your equipment in a lot of hobbies it comes down to the cost of extras. I'm an amateur Photographer and a Target Shooter, with the shooting I need to buy ammunition but with Digital Photography there's no real cost...

If at first you don't succeed... Avoid Skydiving!

I am not sure I consider photography my hobby, it feels more like my therapy and out-reach program. I do try to make a small amount of money with it. I always have a wishlist of new equipment so I know it gets costly. I am saving for studio lighting, yet I am not sure that is the best place to spend my money- maybe new glass. Whatever role photography fills in my life it is a costly one. Although I was naughty yesterday and spent too much on a COACH purse, another passion of mine- shopping. I am a girl after all

Photography is #2 for me. Most expensive is music, with the majority of the money going toward guitars. I''ve bought 3 Martin guitars (one of which was a replacement for one that was stolen), a couple of other acoustic guitars, 2 Fender Stratocasters, several amps, microphones, cables, recording interface for the computer, software, various cables, PA equipment, and assorted other stuff. I never really thought about the total amount I have invested in all of that, but it's more than I've spent on photography (so far...)

I have a martin d28 dreadnaught and i'm looking to buy a Taylor 516 later this year.
Also have 56 gibson les paul (original), prs custom 22 1999. Fender 57 tube amp original. Music is fun.

 I'd love to have a classic les paul like that. And nothing beats that old Fender tube sound. The Taylor isn't my style, but it is a nice guitar. I think the Martin/Taylor feud is right up there with Mac/PC and Nikon/Canon
