This picture of the moon was taken on a Sony a7 II mirrorless camera, not some fancy, expensive NASA equipment. And it only took 50,000 shots.
Andrew McCarthy, an astrophotography enthusiast and all around champion of patience, combined 50,000 photos. Many of these photos were taken on his sony, and the rest were taken on a $250 astro camera.
McCarthy used AutoStakkert! to stack all of the photos and finished the project in Photoshop where he processed the final product.
Editor's Tip: Do you have beautiful photos but aren't sure how to display them? Turn them into large format prints! See what your photos look like as fine art.
"A lot of selective masking, histogram stretching, and contrast adjustments were necessary to get the look I wanted," he said.
McCarthy is gaining a ton of traction for his astrophotography. He is the one who captured the entire solar system in one backyard photo a few weeks ago.
