Canon EOS M lenses are explicitly built for their range of EOS M mirrorless cameras. Even though they have been selling mirrorless cameras since the launch of the Canon EOS M in 2012, there are surprisingly only eight native Canon EOS M lenses.
There are two main reasons for this. The first is that Canon is more focused on the EOS R ecosystem. The second is the countless inexpensive lens mount adapters out there that make all Canon lenses work with EOS M cameras.
While you may be tempted to buy an adapter, working with the native Canon EOS M lenses has many advantages. Two of the biggest are faster autofocus and lighter lenses that pair better with the more compact mirrorless system.
Another piece of advice I have is to consider buying a used lens…
It’s a great way to save money for additional gear, and if you know where to look, you can find extraordinary bargains. One excellent resource is MPB. They are one the largest and most trustworthy platforms to buy, sell and trade in used camera equipment, and best of all, they always have loads of used Canon EOS M lenses for sale!
What are we waiting for? Let’s dive and discover the best lenses for Canon mirrorless cameras!
Table of Contents
Best Standard Zoom Canon EOS M Lens
The Canon EF-M 15-45mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM is, without a doubt, one of the best Canon EOS M lenses on the market.
With an effective focal length of 24-72mm, it’s an incredibly versatile do-it-all lens that’s perfect for landscapes, portraits, and everything in-between! If you could only own one lens in the EOS M lineup, this would for sure be my number one recommendation!
The first thing you will notice is how amazingly light and compact it is. Weighing only 130 grams, whether it’s on your camera or in your bag, it adds virtually no extra weight to your kit. Additionally, thanks to a brilliant collapsible design, it has a super low profile and can even fit in your pocket.
Moreover, it has built-in optical image stabilization that provides 3.5 additional stops. This makes it a wonderful choice for low-light situations and handheld shooters. On top of that, if you do any video work, it helps eliminate camera shake and leads to much smoother footage.
A few other nifty features are responsive autofocus, a 0.25-meter minimum focusing distance, and the option to buy it in two stylish colors, black or silver.
The cherry on top is that it’s crazy affordable! On MPB, they have a huge inventory of used Canon 15-45mm lenses, all for well under $100!
Best Wide-Angle Canon EOS M Lens
As far as wide-angle lenses go, one of the top Canon EOS M lenses is the Canon EF-M 11-22mm f/4-5.6 IS STM.
Once you factor in the 1.6x crop of Canon mirrorless cameras, it has a focal length equivalent to 18-35mm. You will be able to fit TONS of detail into your images, making it the ideal lens for landscape and real estate photography.
It captures stunningly sharp still images courtesy of two aspherical lenses and one UD lens made from premium glass. In addition, it has a Super Spectra coating which enhances colors and boosts contrast. The 3-stop built-in image stabilization technology further improves the image quality by eliminating unwanted blur.
Other people who love this lens are vloggers. For starters, the wide field of view easily fits your whole face (and more!) into the frame even when filming with the camera in your hands. Furthermore, it has a 0.15-meter minimum focusing distance, allowing you to get up close and personal with the camera.
More outstanding features that make this one of the best Canon EOS M lenses are smooth and silent autofocus, a sturdy yet compact design, an easy-to-use manual focus ring, and fantastic macro photography capabilities.

Best Telephoto Canon EOS M Lens
One of my favorite Canon EOS M lenses and hands down the top telephoto lens is the Canon EF-M 55-200mm f/4.5-6.3 IS STM.
It has an effective focal length of 88-320mm and is terrific for taking you closer to the action. It is an absolute must-own lens if you like shooting wildlife or sports. Moreover, it’s great for travel and street photography when you want to photograph people but want to remain low-key.
Like the other two lenses in this article, it generates crisp edge-to-edge images thanks to a high-quality build and superb in-body stabilization. For telephoto lenses, in particular, stabilization is critical. Without it, if you are fully zoomed in and shooting by hand, camera shake is a nightmare and can completely ruin your images.
The maximum f/4.5-6.3 aperture is also a remarkable feature. While it may not help for low-light shooting, it excels in portrait photography. It creates a shallow depth of field and a buttery bokeh effect that leads to beautiful portraits. Trust me, your friends and family will be stunned when they see the photos you took with this lens.
Three more things you will love are the lightning-fast autofocus, the rich colors it yields, and how shockingly lightweight it is for a telephoto lens. If you want to put together an extremely versatile kit covering a wide range of focal lengths, I suggest pairing it with the Canon EF-M 15-45mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM.
