I know I’m not the only one who is dying to get out and do some adventuring. After a pretty lackluster year for most photographers, I’m excited to return to the way that things were. Thankfully, it seems like a lot of my clients are as well.
However, since I did have to pivot my photography business so much during the pandemic, I’m slowly recognizing that I need to get myself some new functional camera accessories. I sold off a lot of my lightweight camera accessories when the pandemic hit in order to keep my head above water. Now, I’m in a bind.
I know that I need to buy some more useful photography gear, but I’m also on a pretty strict budget. While work has been coming back for me for the last few months, I don’t think I’ll ever be as cocky with my business skills ever again. I definitely recognize that this work could go away at any time.
So, I gathered a list of lightweight camera accessories that are also budget-friendly and I figured I could share that list with you as well.
Western Utility Pouch
While I want all of my camera accessories to be lightweight camera accessories, I also recognize that a lot of ultra-lightweight materials aren’t going to last very long. So, I have to measure the type of material with its weight to figure out whether a certain accessory is worth it for me.
What usually ends up happening is that I opt to purchase leather camera accessories, like this Western Utility Pouch. Leather typically doesn’t weigh very much at all and it also lasts a lifetime (literally). The Western Utility Pouch comes with a lifetime guarantee.
The Western Utility Pouch was designed to carry either your batteries or your film, if you’re shooting with an older style of camera. So, it isn’t very large. It comes in one of two sizes. The first is 4.25” x 3” x 1” and is best for you if you want to carry your batteries in it. The second is slightly larger at 5.5” x 3.25” x 1.25” and is best for you if you want to carry traditional film rolls.
The smaller Western Utility Pouch can carry two batteries and the larger Western Utility Pouch can carry five rolls of 35mm film.
Both versions of the Western Utility Pouch are made of leather, and they both come in a variety of colors, like brown, black and green.
You can either wear the Western Utility Pouch on your belt, or you can attach it to your MoneyMaker (which I’ll talk a little bit more about later on).
The small version of the Western Utility Pouch is $60 and the large version of the Western Utility Pouch is $90.

Western Sunglasses Case and Gear Roll
The Western Sunglasses Case and Gear Roll is actually one of my favorite lightweight camera accessories.
I’m someone who always ends up losing my sunglasses, and when I’m shooting for hours on end outside, the sun can really start to bother me. But, since I bought my sunglasses case, I have actually managed to keep the same pair of sunglasses for at least a few months at a time, which is a personal record.
You can also use this sunglass case as a wallet, since it comes with an internal divider. I’ve used it to carry business cards, pens, and cash in the past as well.
Like each Holdfast product, the Western Sunglasses Case and Gear Roll comes in a variety of colors: brown, black, green and navy.
You can pick one up for $75.
MoneyMaker Solo
Another one of my favorite lightweight camera accessories is my MoneyMaker Solo.
The Moneymaker Solo is one of my favorite lightweight camera accessories because it's one of the lightest, yet most durable, camera straps I’ve ever owned.
The MoneyMaker Solo is designed to carry one camera. It works as a crossbody camera strap and is made out of leather and stainless steel hardware, so you don’t have to worry about it getting rusted if you’re working in the rain or humidity.
The MoneyMaker Solo comes with a stabilizer strap that helps to keep your shoulder pad in place, regardless of where your camera is. The MoneyMaker Solo is also so comfortable because of its thick shoulder pad, which is designed to allow you to carry a particularly heavy camera and lens.
This strap also features a belt anchor which keeps your camera in place. If you’re doing a lot of adventuring while you’re photographing, it prevents your camera from swinging around like crazy.
A lot of lightweight camera accessories are one-size-fits-all, which I’ve noticed doesn’t really work for me. Thankfully, the MoneyMaker Solo comes in three sizes, small, medium, and large, so you can have the perfect fit.
The MoneyMaker Solo is available in a variety of colors, like tan, burgundy, and chestnut and will cost $175.
