Pictorem Acrylic Print Review

Quick Verdict: Pictorem’s acrylic print delivers exceptional color accuracy, sharp detail, and a clean, professional finish — all backed by some of the most impressive packaging we’ve ever seen come through the door. The only minor gripe: no wall anchor included in the box. For $96, this is a seriously strong option for photographers who want their images displayed the way they were meant to look.

A little while back, I put Pictorem’s metal print through its paces and a lot of you had questions, specifically about their other print options. Well, friends, I heard you loud and clear! This time around, I cracked open a brand-new box from Pictorem to take a close look at their acrylic print, and I have to say: I did not see some of this coming.

I’ve been reviewing prints for six years now. The whole idea behind these reviews has always been the same: if you’re going to spend your hard-earned money on a print, you deserve to know exactly what you’re getting before you click “order.” I leave no stone unturned: packaging, print quality, surface feel, mounting hardware, corners, and everything in between. This review is no different.

The print I tested was a 30×15 acrylic with a black float mount on the back. The image: a stunning lavender field; a great choice for pushing color accuracy and sharpness to the limit. Here’s what I found.

Packaging: A Masterclass in Print Protection

I want to start here because, honestly, this is where Pictorem surprised me most. And after six years of reviewing prints, that’s not easy to do. Most companies ship their prints in broadly similar ways. Pictorem’s approach with this acrylic print was genuinely different.

The first thing you notice is the outer box itself. It features what I can only describe as a reinforced exoskeleton frame around the exterior. That structure is designed to absorb side impacts before they ever get close to the print inside. Then, once you get into the box, things get even more serious. There’s a full two inches of dense foam lining the entire outer perimeter, and that’s on top of the outer reinforcement. I spent a solid few minutes just getting into this thing, which I mean as a high compliment.

Work through that and you’ll find additional layers of cardboard on the face side of the print, followed by a foam sheet, then small-cell bubble wrap, and finally a foam wrap directly against the print surface itself. Layer after layer, each one adding another level of protection.

Why does this matter? Think about the holiday season, when carriers bring on seasonal help and packages sometimes get, let’s say, enthusiastically handled. A print that arrives damaged is a print that does nobody any good, not the photographer, not the client, not you. Pictorem clearly understands this, and their packaging reflects it.

Here’s the thing about reviewing prints on camera: the video never does them justice. That’s true of every print I’ve reviewed over the years, but it’s worth saying again here because this acrylic print was a genuinely beautiful object in person.

I chose a lavender field image for specific reasons. Large, open areas of sky are excellent at revealing print anomalies like banding, noise, and inconsistent color. The lavender itself tests fine detail and how well subtle textures hold up at scale. On both counts, this print passed with flying colors.

The sky area was clean and smooth with zero visible noise or banding. The lavender field showed crisp, well-defined detail throughout, the kind of sharpness that makes you lean in for a closer look. Color accuracy was spot-on to the original file. There’s a real difference between a print that just “looks fine” and a print that pulls you in, and this one falls firmly into the second category.

One thing I always check and I always caution people not to do at home, is running a hand carefully across the print surface. Some acrylic and metal prints out there have edges that feel genuinely sharp, like running your fingers along a saw blade. This one was smooth and well-finished. No concerns there.

The Back: Float Mount, Hardware & Wall Mounting

The back of a print gets overlooked in a lot of reviews, but I think it matters more than people realize. If you’re drop shipping this print directly to a client, they’re going to open that box and inspect every inch of it. That print (good or bad) is going to represent you as a professional. You want it to look the part front to back.

Pictorem’s black float mount on the back of this print looks polished and intentional. The mounting hardware is excellent. And one of my favorite small details: this print has four rubber nubby stoppers in the corners (yes, that’s the technical term; I’ve been calling them nubbies for six years and I’m committing to it!). Those little stoppers keep the print slightly lifted off the wall, which protects both the wall surface and the back of the print. It’s a thoughtful touch that speaks to the overall quality of the build.

There was one small omission worth noting: no wall anchor was included in the box. Most companies will tape a basic anchor to the back; it’s worth just a couple of cents, and it’s a convenient little extra for the customer. It wasn’t here. Minor, but worth mentioning if you’re drop shipping and want the full white-glove experience for your clients.

One Minor Flaw Worth Mentioning

I never hold punches in these reviews, so here it is: on close inspection of the frame, there was a small spot where the black ink coverage wasn’t quite complete. It’s a tiny area, tucked right at the edge of the float mount on the back.

But let’s be real: this is buried behind the print. When this thing is hanging on your wall, no one is ever going to see it. It has absolutely zero impact on how the print looks displayed, and it doesn’t affect the structural integrity of the mount in any way. It’s worth mentioning in the spirit of full transparency, but it’s not something that would give me pause about ordering from Pictorem again.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Exceptional packaging; among the best we’ve seen in six years of reviews
  • Outstanding color accuracy, true to the original file
  • Sharp, detailed print quality throughout
  • Smooth, safe surface finish with no sharp edges
  • Elegant black float mount with polished, professional appearance
  • Wall-protection rubber stoppers included on the back
  • Strong mounting hardware throughout

Cons

  • No wall anchor included in the box
  • Minor ink coverage gap found on the back frame edge (cosmetic only)

Final Verdict

pictorem acrylic print scorecard

Pictorem did an extraordinary job with this acrylic print. The sharpness is there, the color is there, and the overall build quality speaks for itself. But beyond the print itself, the packaging is a statement; it tells you that this company takes seriously the idea that your work needs to arrive in perfect condition, whether it’s going to your own wall or a client’s front door.

Here’s the thing I always come back to at the end of these reviews: a great print is a powerful thing. Done right, it represents the creative vision you had in your head when you pressed the shutter. It pulls you back in every time you walk past it, and it makes you want to go out and shoot more. A bad print does the opposite. This one does the right thing.

For $96, this is a genuinely impressive product. If you’ve never printed one of your photos before, this is a great place to start. Go through your catalog, find the image you’re proudest of, and get it on a wall. You’ll understand why so many photographers keep coming back to print the moment you see it hanging there.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a Pictorem acrylic print cost?

The 30×15 acrylic print with black float mount I tested was priced at $96. Pictorem offers a range of sizes, so pricing will vary depending on the dimensions you choose.

How does Pictorem’s acrylic print compare to their metal print?

Both prints deliver excellent color accuracy and sharpness. The acrylic print has a distinctive depth and vibrancy that differs from the reflective finish of the metal print. The packaging approach for the acrylic was notably more elaborate — one of the most protective setups we’ve tested to date.

Is the Pictorem acrylic print safe to handle?

Yes. The print surface is smooth with no sharp edges. Some acrylic and metal prints can have rough, blade-like surfaces along the edges, but this one was well-finished and comfortable to handle.

Can I drop ship a Pictorem acrylic print directly to a photography client?

Absolutely. The packaging is robust enough to withstand typical shipping conditions, and the back of the print looks clean and professional — exactly what you want when a client is opening a package that represents your brand. The only caveat: you may want to include your own wall anchor separately, since one wasn’t included in our shipment.

What print medium should I choose if I’m ordering for the first time?

If you’re new to printing your photography, acrylic is a wonderful choice — it offers vivid color rendition and a polished, gallery-ready look. That said, we’d encourage you to explore Pictorem’s full range. Start with whichever size fits your budget and get something on the wall. The experience of seeing your own work printed and displayed is well worth it.
