Portland Photography Exhibit Celebrates Architecture of City
Elizabeth Moss Galleries in Falmouth, Maine announces the opening of “Clyde McCulley: A Digital Homage to Edward Hopper,” which will be exhibited through May 12, 2012.
The collection of photographs are those of Clyde McCulley, a Portland resident, who has spent many of his retirement years recording the historical and restored architecture of the city and its rehabilitation as a trendy, desirable place to live and visit. McCulley is the former director of the School of Art at Munson Williams Proctor Institute in Utica, N.Y.
McCulley specifically captures digital photos of the effects of natural light on Portland architecture and storefronts with large, glass windows. He then edits the images to give them brighter colors and a textured look, simulating a painting. The completed images then become dye-infused prints on coated metal.
McCulley says the style of his Portland architecture photos is a homage to the American painter, Edward Hopper, who painted local scenes of the city during the 1920s.
